Senior Research Project
Project Proposal: How does being a dance instructor make me feel? Did it enlighten my dancing experience?
Research: For the research of this project, I choreographed a one minute combination for students and teachers to learn. I spent a total of two weeks finding music and choreographing the dance, making sure that the choreography was fit to all skill levels of dance.
Final Project: For the final project, I held a workshop during co-curricular and had students come and learn the combination I had set up. Even though no teachers arrived, students were able to learn a good chunk of the choreography and enjoy the experience.
From watching those who attended, I saw that the students were having fun with the dance, even though most were not skilled dancers. There was a lot of confusion at parts in the combination but I was able to clearly fix the confusion. For my personal experience, it was a little bit stressful. I don't speak loudly and I don't like to yell. So when the students started to get noisy or distracted, it was a small challenge for me to speak over them and to get them back to being focused. Even though it was a challenge because of that, I still learned that it's not bad to be controlling over something important. Overall, the experience was very enjoyable for me and the students, from choreographing to being able to show others my skills and how well I could be an instructor.
